May 25, 2023

Last night Ester Cerin (ICHEN Leader, ACU), Billie Giles-Corti (RMIT), Carl Higgs (RMIT), Jonathon Arundel (RMIT), and Melanie Lowe (University of Melbourne), on behalf of the Global Healthy and Sustainable City-Indicator Collaboration, won the 2023 national Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) Award for Planning Research Excellence! Billie Giles-Corti attended the ceremony in Adelaide and accepted the award on behalf of the team.

In November 2022 the team won the PIA Planning Research Excellence award for Victoria and from there, were placed in the running to win the national award in May. The project that landed the win is titled ‘Benchmarking Healthy and Sustainable Cities Globally.’

Benchmarking Healthy and Sustainable Cities Globally is a major collaborative research project that seeks to improve the health and sustainability of cities. The project is part of the multi-institutional Global Healthy and Sustainable-Indicators Collaboration, established in 2018, which aims to measure comparable health-related policy and spatial indicators in cities worldwide. The Collaboration involves over 80 collaborators from 25 cities in 19 countries across 6 continents.

Prof. Billie Giles-Corti accepted the award on behalf of the team.
